Terms of Service

Last updated September 20, 2026

These terms are the agreement between you and Johannes Stricker, the sole trader who operates CoachCanvas ("we", "us", "our"), for everything CoachCanvas offers: the website at coachcanvas.app, the app at use.coachcanvas.app and its mobile versions, and the playbooks and plays coaches publish on share.coachcanvas.app (together, the "Services"). Our full contact details are in the legal notice.

You accept these terms when you use the Services, and again when you create an account or buy a subscription. If you use CoachCanvas for a club, school or other organisation, you confirm that you are allowed to accept these terms on its behalf. If you do not agree with them, please do not use the Services.

The short version

This summary is here to help you find your way around. The numbered sections below are what counts.

  • Free stays free. The free plan gives you up to 30 plays and unlimited playbooks. Pro is a paid subscription that renews until you cancel it.
  • Cancel any time. You keep Pro until the end of the period you have paid for. Consumers can also withdraw within 14 days of subscribing and get their money back.
  • Your plays are yours. You own what you draw. We only get the rights we need to store it, show it to you and, when you publish, to the people you share it with.
  • Publishing is public. Anyone with the link can open a published playbook, and players can keep an offline copy on their phone. Unpublishing removes the page, not the copies already downloaded.
  • Play fair. No illegal or infringing content, no abuse of the Services, no reselling.
  • German law applies, and if you are a consumer you keep the protections of the country you live in.

1. Who can use CoachCanvas

You must be at least 18 years old to create an account or buy a subscription. If you are younger, you may use CoachCanvas only with the consent of a parent or guardian who accepts these terms for you. Players do not need an account, and no minimum age applies to viewing a playbook that a coach has shared with them.

Some sections of these terms apply only to consumers, meaning individuals who use CoachCanvas for purposes outside their trade, business or profession. A volunteer or hobby coach paying out of their own pocket is a consumer; a club or school that buys Pro for its staff is not.

2. Your account

You can draw plays without an account. In that case everything you create is stored only on your device. We cannot see it, back it up or recover it if the device is lost or the browser data is cleared. Creating an account syncs your work to our servers and lets you use it on several devices.

When you create an account, you must give us a working email address that belongs to you and keep it up to date. Keep your password secret: you are responsible for everything that happens under your account until you tell us it has been compromised. Do not share your account with others or transfer it to someone else.

We will email you about your account, your subscription and important changes to the Services. You cannot opt out of those emails while you have an account. Marketing emails are separate and covered by our privacy policy.

3. The free plan and Pro

CoachCanvas has a free plan and a paid plan called Pro. What each plan includes is described on our pricing page. Today the free plan lets you keep up to 30 plays and unlimited playbooks, publish playbooks and plays, export them as PDF and import your library from other tools. Pro removes the play limit and adds features such as branding your playbooks with your team's colours and logo and an installable playbook app for your players.

We may change what the free plan includes, for example its limits, but we will give you reasonable notice before a change takes effect, and your existing plays and playbooks stay accessible and exportable.

When your Pro subscription ends, your account returns to the free plan. Everything you created stays in your account and remains yours. Features tied to Pro stop working: branded playbooks fall back to the standard look, published playbooks are no longer installable as an app and the CoachCanvas badge returns to your share pages. If you have more plays than the free plan allows, you keep, edit and export them, but you cannot add new ones until you are below the limit or subscribe again.

From time to time we grant Pro free of charge, for example to partners or testers. Such complimentary access can be ended by us at any time with notice, and none of the payment terms below apply to it.

4. Subscriptions bought on our website

You can buy Pro on our website. Payment is handled by Stripe, our payment provider. We offer a monthly and a yearly subscription. The current prices are shown on our pricing page and, before you pay, at checkout. Prices are in US dollars unless the checkout shows another currency, and the checkout shows the total including any taxes that apply to your billing address.

The contract. By completing the checkout, you order a Pro subscription. The contract comes into existence when we activate Pro on your account, which normally happens within a few minutes, and Stripe sends you a confirmation email with your invoice. If we cannot activate Pro, we refund you.

Billing and renewal. You pay in advance for each billing period. After the first period, your subscription continues until you cancel it. Each period is charged automatically to the payment method you gave Stripe, on the renewal date shown in the app and in the confirmation email.

Cancelling. You can cancel at any time in the Stripe billing portal, which you reach from the subscription screen in the app, or by emailing us at hello@coachcanvas.app. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the billing period you have already paid for, and you keep Pro until then. Because you can cancel up to the last day of a period, there is no notice period to keep in mind.

If you are a consumer and your yearly subscription has already renewed at least once, you can additionally end it with one month's notice at any point in the renewed year. In that case we refund the part of the prepaid year that lies after the notice period.

Failed payments. If a payment fails, Stripe retries it and emails you. Pro stays active during a short grace period so that you can update your payment method. If the payment still cannot be collected, your subscription ends and your account returns to the free plan.

Promotion codes. Promotion codes are personal, valid once per account and cannot be combined. We may withdraw a code that is being abused or shared beyond its purpose.

Price changes. We can change our prices for the future. A price change never applies to a running subscription without your express agreement. We will tell you by email at least 30 days before a new price would apply to your next billing period, and if you do not agree, you can cancel before it does.

5. Subscriptions bought through an app store

Where CoachCanvas is available as a mobile app, you may be able to buy Pro through the app store of your device, such as Apple's App Store. In that case the store operator, not we, bills you, and the store's own terms govern payment, renewal, cancellation and refunds. Cancel such a subscription in the subscription settings of your device, and address refund requests to the store. We cannot cancel or refund an app store purchase for you.

A Pro subscription bought through any channel unlocks Pro on every device where you sign in with the same account. The store operator is not a party to these terms.

6. Right of withdrawal for consumers

If you are a consumer, you have a statutory right to withdraw from a subscription you bought on our website. The instructions below tell you how. The right of withdrawal is separate from your right to cancel under section 4, which you keep in any case.

Withdrawal instructions

Right of withdrawal. You have the right to withdraw from this contract within 14 days without giving any reason. The withdrawal period will expire after 14 days from the day of the conclusion of the contract.

To exercise the right of withdrawal, you must inform us (Johannes Stricker, Himmelreichallee 41, 48149 Münster, Germany, hello@coachcanvas.app) of your decision to withdraw from this contract by an unequivocal statement, for example an email or a letter sent by post. You may use the model withdrawal form below, but it is not obligatory.

To meet the withdrawal deadline, it is sufficient for you to send your communication concerning your exercise of the right of withdrawal before the withdrawal period has expired.

Effects of withdrawal. If you withdraw from this contract, we shall reimburse to you all payments received from you without undue delay and in any event not later than 14 days from the day on which we are informed about your decision to withdraw from this contract. We will carry out such reimbursement using the same means of payment as you used for the initial transaction, unless you have expressly agreed otherwise; in any event, you will not incur any fees as a result of such reimbursement.

Pro is available to you from the moment you subscribe. We refund the full amount if you withdraw, even though you were able to use Pro in the meantime.

Model withdrawal form

If you want to withdraw from the contract, you can fill in this form and send it back to us. You do not have to use it.

To Johannes Stricker, Himmelreichallee 41, 48149 Münster, Germany, hello@coachcanvas.app:

I hereby give notice that I withdraw from my contract for the provision of the following service: CoachCanvas Pro subscription.

Ordered on: ____________

Name of consumer: ____________

Address of consumer: ____________

Email address of the CoachCanvas account: ____________

Date: ____________

Signature of consumer (only if this form is sent on paper): ____________

7. Refunds

Apart from the right of withdrawal, the one-month cancellation right for renewed yearly subscriptions in section 4 and your statutory rights, payments are not refunded. If you cancel, you keep Pro until the end of the period you have paid for instead. If we end your subscription for reasons other than a breach of these terms, we refund the part of the current period you can no longer use.

8. Your content

Everything you create or upload in CoachCanvas, such as plays, playbooks, notes, team logos, colours and other branding, stays yours ("your content"). We claim no ownership in it.

So that we can run the Services, you grant us a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to store, back up, copy, adapt for display, render and transmit your content, to generate previews and PDFs from it, and, when you publish, to make it available to the people you share it with and, if you choose, to search engines. We use this licence only to provide and improve the Services for you, never to sell your content or to advertise with it. The licence ends when you delete the content or your account, except that copies may remain in our backups for a limited time and that copies already downloaded by the people you shared with are out of our reach (see section 9).

You are responsible for your content. In particular, you confirm that you hold the rights you need for it, including for logos, team names, photos and plays you import from other tools, and that it does not break the law or these terms. Playbooks are about plays, not people: please do not put personal information about players, such as full names, contact details or health information, into a published playbook.

We do not review content before it is stored or published. If we learn that content breaks the law or these terms, we may remove it or take a publication offline and will let you know unless the law prevents us. If you believe that content on CoachCanvas infringes your rights, email us at hello@coachcanvas.app with a link to the content and a description of the problem.

We may set reasonable limits on storage, file sizes and file types, and will show them in the app where they apply.

9. Publishing and sharing

You can publish a playbook or a single play. Publishing creates a page on share.coachcanvas.app that anyone with the link can open, without an account. You can protect a publication with a password, and you can allow search engines to list it. Publications without a password are private only in the sense that their link is hard to guess. You decide who gets the link, and you are responsible for sharing it only with people you want to see the content.

Players and staff can install a published playbook on their phone and keep using it offline. When you update the playbook, they receive the update the next time they open it. When you unpublish, the page goes offline, but copies already stored on your players' devices remain there until they remove them. PDFs you export or send are outside CoachCanvas altogether.

If you view content that a coach has published, you may use it for your own team and personal purposes. You may not copy it systematically, republish it or use it commercially without the coach's permission. Published content is the coach's, not ours: we do not endorse it and we may take it offline as described in section 8.

10. Acceptable use

When you use CoachCanvas, you must not

  • upload or publish content that is illegal, infringes someone else's rights, is defamatory, threatening or pornographic, or harasses others;
  • interfere with the Services or their security, for example by probing for vulnerabilities, overloading our servers, introducing malware or circumventing access controls, payment or plan limits;
  • access the Services by automated means such as scrapers, or copy content from them at scale, except through features we provide for it;
  • reverse engineer, decompile or copy the software behind the Services, except where the law expressly allows it;
  • resell, rent or sublicense the Services, or offer them to third parties as your own product;
  • use CoachCanvas to send spam or to impersonate another person or organisation.

If we find out that your use breaches these rules, we may remove content, restrict features or suspend or end your account. Section 14 describes how.

11. Our intellectual property

The Services, including the software, the design, the court and diagram graphics, the templates and the example content, belong to us or to our licensors and are protected by copyright and other laws. Nothing in these terms transfers any of it to you.

We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable right to use the Services, including our mobile apps, in line with these terms and for as long as they apply between us. Diagrams and PDFs you create with CoachCanvas are your content under section 8, and you may use them however you like, including in coaching materials you sell.

If you send us ideas or suggestions for CoachCanvas, we may use them without owing you anything, and you may keep using them too.

12. Availability, changes and support

We work hard to keep CoachCanvas available, but we do not guarantee that it will be available at all times or free from errors. Maintenance, updates and events outside our control can cause interruptions. The app is built to work offline, and your local copy stays usable during an outage.

We keep developing CoachCanvas. We may change or add features, and we provide the updates that are needed to keep the Services working as described. Features labelled as beta or preview may change or disappear without notice. If we withdraw a feature you rely on as part of Pro, we will tell you at least 30 days in advance, and you may end your subscription with effect from the day the change takes effect.

We offer support by email at hello@coachcanvas.app and answer as quickly as we can, without a guaranteed response time.

13. Warranty and liability

Warranty. If you are a consumer, your statutory rights regarding defects in digital products apply to Pro, and nothing in these terms limits them.

Liability. We are liable without limit for damage caused intentionally or by gross negligence, for injury to life, body or health, under the German Product Liability Act and where we have given an express guarantee. For damage caused by slight negligence, we are liable only for the breach of an obligation whose fulfilment makes the proper performance of the contract possible in the first place and on whose fulfilment you may regularly rely, and then only for the foreseeable damage that is typical for this kind of contract. Beyond that, our liability is excluded. This also applies to the people and companies we use to perform the contract.

For the free plan and other services we provide free of charge, we are liable only for damage caused intentionally or by gross negligence and for injury to life, body or health.

Your data. We back up our servers regularly. Where you are responsible for a loss of data, or where we are liable for one, our liability is limited to the effort needed to restore the data from backups that you could reasonably have been expected to make, for example by exporting important playbooks as PDF.

Claims by third parties. If a third party raises claims against us because of your content or because of your use of the Services in breach of these terms, you will compensate us for the resulting damage and costs to the extent you are responsible for the breach.

14. Term, termination and deleting your account

Ending things yourself. You can stop using the free plan at any time. To end Pro, cancel your subscription as described in sections 4 and 5. To delete your account, email us at hello@coachcanvas.app from the account's email address; we will confirm and then delete the account and its content as described in our privacy policy. Deleting the account takes all your publications offline and cannot be undone, so export what you want to keep first. If you still have an active subscription, cancel it first or tell us so that we can cancel it for you.

Termination by us. We may end a free account with 30 days' notice by email, for example if it has been unused for a long time. We may end a Pro subscription with 30 days' notice with effect from the end of the current billing period, and we refund any period you have already paid for that lies beyond that date. In both cases you can export your content until the account closes.

We may suspend or end your account immediately, without notice, for good cause: a serious or repeated breach of these terms, content that is clearly illegal, a payment default we have reminded you of, or a use of the Services that puts other users or the Services at risk. Where reasonable, we warn you first and give you the chance to fix the problem. If we end a Pro subscription for good cause, prepaid amounts for the remaining period are not refunded.

What happens afterwards. When your account ends, your publications go offline, and we delete your content after the retention period described in our privacy policy. Sections that by their nature should outlive the contract, such as 8, 11, 13 and 15, continue to apply.

15. Changes to these terms

We may change these terms when we have a valid reason to, such as a change in the law, a new feature or product, a security or abuse problem, or wording that turned out to be unclear. We will tell you by email or in the app at least 30 days before a change takes effect, and we will point out what changed. If you do not agree with a change, you can end your subscription or delete your account before it takes effect. Changes that alter what you pay or what Pro essentially includes never apply to a running subscription without your express agreement.

16. Governing law and disputes

These terms and any contract between us are governed by the law of the Federal Republic of Germany, excluding the UN Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods. If you are a consumer, this choice of law does not deprive you of the protection of the mandatory rules of the country in which you usually live.

If you are a merchant, a legal entity under public law or a special fund under public law, the courts of Münster, Germany, have exclusive jurisdiction. Otherwise the statutory rules on jurisdiction apply.

We are neither obliged nor willing to take part in dispute resolution proceedings before a consumer arbitration board. If something has gone wrong, please email us first at hello@coachcanvas.app; most problems can be solved that way.

17. Final provisions

If a provision of these terms is or becomes invalid, the rest remains in force. These terms are written in English. Where we provide translations, the English version prevails in case of doubt.

Questions about these terms? Email us at hello@coachcanvas.app or write to the address in the legal notice.
